RMT Announces Eight London Tube Strikes Over Four-Day Week Plan

The RMT union has announced eight 24-hour strikes by London Underground drivers over plans for a four-day working week, LBC reports. The walkouts run between 26 November and 25 February and begin at noon on Thursday 26 November 2026, with further dates on 17 and 19 December. The dates were announced on Friday.

The remaining strike dates are Monday 4 January 2027, Wednesday 6 January, Wednesday 17 February, Tuesday 23 February and Thursday 25 February. RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said London Underground is trying to dress up a wholesale attack on drivers' conditions as a voluntary scheme. Commuters should expect disruption on those days.

He said the scheme forces drivers to give up existing protections, threatens refusers with displacement from depots, and requires longer and more unpredictable shifts. RMT says it is not opposed to a genuine four-day week but will not accept job cuts, and has urged management to withdraw the proposals. The dispute is over working patterns.
