A78 Storm Boelo Repairs: Coastal Road to Partly Reopen on 9 November
The A78 coastal road between Skelmorlie and Largs, closed since storm damage from Storm Boelo in October, will partially reopen in both directions from Monday 9 November, STV News reports. The road suffered widespread cracking amid high winds and large waves. The repair work has been continuing since late October.
Since 26 October, concrete has been placed into voids beneath the carriageway and rock armour along a breached sea defence. About 400 of an estimated 3,200 tonnes of rock armour has been placed so far. Daytime closures from 9.30am to 3pm will continue each day. Drivers are advised to expect queues on the route.
Temporary traffic lights will run on the southbound carriageway outside those hours, with signed diversions via the A761, A737 and A760 during closures. Amey says the times will be strictly enforced, and drivers are advised to expect queues. School buses have been escorted for Largs Academy pupils. Local pupils are being supported with bus escorts.
