Nowak Family Calls for Knife Law Changes in ITV Documentary

Henry Nowak's family have called for changes to knife laws in the ITV Tonight documentary 'Dear Henry: Our Fight For Justice'. The 18-year-old university student was fatally stabbed in Southampton on 3 December last year by Vickrum Digwa, who falsely accused him of racial abuse while he lay handcuffed by police.

Digwa's minimum term rose from 21 to 25 years after the Court of Appeal found the original sentence unduly lenient. Father Mark Nowak said the kirpan should be defined in law by size, type and visibility, while the Home Office said it is continuing talks with Sikh stakeholders and police.

Mother Lucy Ross said Henry told police nine times he could not breathe, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has apologised. The IOPC investigation is expected to end early next year, and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has commissioned an independent review led by Alex Chalk. The review is still under way.
