Pair Found Guilty of Shooting Govan Shopkeeper as He Served Customers

Two men have been found guilty of attempted murder after a shooting at a Glasgow shop. Gary Rooney, 34, and Darren Beaton, 37, were convicted at the High Court in Glasgow over the attack at Drumoyne Stores in Govan, which happened at around 4pm on October 25, 2024. Updates are expected soon.

A 55-year-old shop worker was helping a mother and her little girl when he was shot in the hand and needed surgery on his left hand. Both men denied involvement, but jurors heard about a photo of a gloved hand holding a firearm on one man's phone and DNA found on a bottle near a burnt-out Ford Fiesta.

Judge Jane Farquharson KC postponed sentencing until next month at the High Court in Edinburgh and warned of a long prison term. The shop is close to a primary school, and the victim says the shooting has kept him from working in the family business ever since the attack. Updates are expected soon.
