Como Smash Record Nine Goals in 9-1 Champions League Win at Lens

Italian side Como produced one of the most astonishing performances in Champions League history, crushing Lens 9-1 in France on Wednesday. The nine goals set a record for an away team in the competition, equalling the total Bayern Munich scored in their 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in 2024, and leaving a stunned home crowd searching for answers.

Anastasios Douvikas hit a hat-trick, including the seventh minute and another just after the half-hour, and now leads the competition with six goals. Nico Paz, Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali and Martin Baturina also scored, and 18-year-old Matteo Papaccioli added the ninth in the 90th minute. Ruben Aguilar scored Lens's consolation.

Como led 3-0 at half-time and sit fourth with three wins from four, having already beaten Manchester United 4-1 and Leipzig. Opta said the last club to score nine away from home was Feyenoord against Olympiacos in 1971. Promoted only in 2024, the Cesc Fabregas-led side are now genuine contenders.
