Burford Capital Shares Jump 9.9% After Its Strongest Quarter of 2026
London-listed litigation funder Burford Capital delivered a sharp and welcome turnaround in its third-quarter numbers, sending its shares up 9.9 percent to close at 309.40p. Pretax profit reached 43.1 million dollars for the quarter to 30 September, compared with a loss of 16.5 million dollars in the same period last year.
Revenue more than doubled to 146.9 million dollars from 69.8 million, driven by unrealised gains on capital provision assets of 123.0 million dollars, up from just 2.9 million. Net realised gains fell to 25.0 million dollars from 70.8 million, and finance costs rose 25 percent to 52.1 million dollars, tempering the celebration.
Cash stood at 463.8 million dollars, down 18 percent from 566.4 million at the end of 2025. Chief executive Christopher Bogart said Burford had its strongest quarter of the year. For investors in the transatlantic legal finance group, the question is whether unrealised valuation gains will convert into the realised cash that markets want.
