Musetti Survives Two Tiebreaks to Set Up Zverev Clash in Paris

How close was Lorenzo Musetti to going out in Paris? The Italian beat Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(3), 7-6(10) in one hour and 43 minutes, surviving a second-set tiebreak in which Hurkacz saved three match points. Musetti now plays top seed Alexander Zverev in the next round. It was a tense and dramatic match.

Other Monday results included Casper Ruud beating Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 6-2, Rafael Jodar defeating Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 6-3, and Ignacio Buse beating Zizou Bergs 6-2, 6-4. Rinky Hijikata and Luca Van Assche also advanced, highlighting a busy opening day at the Masters 1000 event. Many seeds started their campaigns on the same day.

Zverev is newly world number one, and Carlos Alcaraz arrives as second seed after winning Vienna on Sunday. Defending champion Jannik Sinner is absent with a knee injury, leaving the draw open. The tournament runs from November 2 to 8, so the title race is wide open. Fans expect more drama later in the week as the field narrows.
